Rural Transit Operations

City of Sylvester announces that full transit services will now be offered by the City of Sylvester Rural Transit System. In cooperation with the Southwest Georgia Regional Development Center, City of Sylvester is announcing that the transit services have been established and will now be available to all residents of City of Sylvester. These operations will act as one component of eleven (11) that make up a Regional Rural Transit Program that has been established to serve all of Southwest Georgia.

Through the cooperation of the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Georgia Department of Human Resources, and City of Sylvester, public transportation will be made available to all residents beginning today, August 22, 2003.

Born out of the need for more effective and efficient transportation services for the public and private sectors, the concept was developed through identified economic development, community development and human resources needs in the region.

Three vehicles have been purchased by the Southwest Georgia RDC and GDOT for the specific use of serving City of Sylvester. The transit services are open to all residents. Currently, a basic rate structure has been established to help accommodate initial needs (see below). Once services begin, aggressive planning will be done to help better identify needs, adjust rates based on those needs and plan for future expansions.
