Residential and General Contractor Notice

County and Business leaders,

The Georgia Code requires certain general and residential contractors to be licensed by the Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors by July 1, 2008. The legislative requirement was designed to provide a measure of protection for consumers and the construction industry from dishonest contractors. We strongly encourage all professionals to apply for licensure in advance of the deadline to ensure the Board has ample time to review all the applications.

There are certain types of specialty contractors who do not require licensure; a list of these may be found on our website at:
http://www.sos.ga.gov/plb/contractors/Specialty_contractors.htm.

In an effort to reach the widest number of general and residential contractors, I have attached an informational flier that you can distribute to members of your professional organization and county offices where building permits are issued. County offices, please post this attachment in a prominent location for the public to view.
Anyone with additional questions about the new licensing requirement can contact the Professional Licensing Boards at 478-207-2440 or visit our website at www.sos.ga.gov/plb/contractors for additional information including state law, board rules and forms.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Lisa Durden
