All building and zoning for the City of Sylvester will be administered by Sandy Almand. Sandy may be reached at P.O. Box 370, 229-776-8505 or at 101 N. Main Street, Sylvester, GA 31791. Hours are 8am - 11:30am, Monday - Thursday.

|
To begin your new utility service in Sylvester you must do the following procedures:
1. Have picture ID (driver's License).
2. Social Security card.
3. Rent Receipt.
4. Service Charge for:
Lights - $50.00
Water - $10.00
Gas - $20.00
The Service is Non-refundable.
5. Deposit for services:
Lights - $50.00
Water - $50.00
Gas - $50.00
The Deposit is applied to final bill or transfered to a new location if your going to have services with the city.
6. To have services turned on you need to
come into city hall before 1:30 p.m.
7. Work orders are done Mon - Fri between
3:30 & 5:00.
8. Transfering of service from one address to another is $20.00.
9. Reconnection fee for delinquent bill is $60.00. Bill must be paid with cash before 4:30pm for reconnection.

The Sylvester Fire Department and/or the Sylvester Water Department periodically flow fire hydrants to check the function of the hydrants, to evaluate the firefighting water available from each hydrant, to monitor the condition of the water system, and to remove rust and other sediment from the water distribution system.

Marketing Specialist/Main St. Director
The City of Sylvester Georgia is soliciting applications for a Marketing Specialist/Main St. Director. Sylvester is the Worth County seat with a population of 6,000 and is located between Albany, Georgia and Tifton, Georgia on US Hwy 82.
The city provides governmental services to its’ citizens and multiple utilities including electricity, natural gas and some telecommunication services. Sylvester has the desire of becoming a Main Street city and has encouraged a successful downtown. Because of its’ location and leadership, Sylvester has strong potential for growth in retail and manufacturing.
This new position will be expected to support the city’s utility operations by improving customer communications as well as broader communication with the community at large. Additionally the position will coordinate activities to continue the revitalization of Sylvester’s downtown. Close coordination with various community boards and civic groups will be necessary to accomplish position objectives. This will include the Downtown Development Authority, Sylvester/Worth County Chamber of Commerce, Worth County EDA and others.
Successful candidates will possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in marketing or related discipline or 5 years of equivalent experience. Main Street experience is desired. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required including a working knowledge of tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. Experience with desktop publishing is a plus.
This position reports to the City Manager. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Housing and Code Enforcement Assistant
The City of Sylvester is accepting applications and resumes for the position of Housing and Code Enforcement Assistant. This position provides assistance and support for the department operations.
MAJOR DUTIES:
• Greets public and answer telephones; provide information and assistance; takes messages, schedules appointments, and refers to appropriate personnel city wide.
• Receives code violation complaints, assists with address locations, property owner information, and maps for case files.
• Assists and acts as active member of the Community Housing Initiative, in promoting affordable housing opportunities throughout the target areas of the City.
• Prepares Letters and reports, receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail for department.
• Maintains files for department
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
• Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
• Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures
• Skilled in use of computers and other modern office equipment
• Customer Service skills
• Skill in oral and written communications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of/or ability to readily obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Building Inspector (Part-time)
The City of Sylvester is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector (Part-time). This position is responsible for inspecting property and structures to determine if the requirements of the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes for Construction are met during construction or alteration.
MAJOR DUTIES
Performs on-site building inspections of foundations and framing.
Reviews subdivision and development plans and regulations with developers, engineers, planning staff, other city employees and the general public. Prepares reports for presentation to the Planning Commission.
Notifies contractors, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and owners of code violations and discusses remedies for compliance.
Performs final inspections including electrical, and plumbing, etc.
Conducts on-site inspections as needed.
Attends professional development workshops to stay abreast of building inspection.
Prepares reports and maintains inspection records.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIRED
Knowledge of the principles and practices of building inspections and land use.
Knowledge of city codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of development & issues related to construction.
Skill in preparing and maintaining reports and records.
Skill in written and oral communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Shall have at least 10 years experience, five years of which shall have been in charge of work or equivalent thereof.
Must successfully complete the ICC building inspection course within 12 months of employment.
Possession of or ability to obtain a Georgia Driver’s license appropriate for types of vehicles and equipment operated.
