The Community Development Department administers current city land use policies and provides planning for future land uses. The Community Development Director is Glenice Stephens.

Code Enforcement is responsible for maintaining the best interest of the citizens of the City of Sylvester as it relates to the life safety, general health, and welfare of the public as they relate to property maintenance of both commercial and residential properties. Also to ensure that nuisances as prescribed by the city ordinances are brought into compliance.

Code Enforcement responds to complaints regarding property maintenance and other issues and regularly patrols the city to identify violations. When violations are identified, enforcement action is taken. This includes first and foremost working with citizens to willfully abate violations, warnings, and as a last resort, citations to appear in Municipal Court.
