The Community Development Department administers current city land use policies and provides planning for future land uses. The Community Development Director is Glenice Stephens.

The City of Sylvester has been an Alumni of the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing 2007.

Georgia Fair Housing Act: It’s The Law

The Georgia Fair Housing Act was passd to ensure all Georgian’s can compete for housing within their economic means on a fair and equitable basis. It prohibits discrimination in housing and housing related activities. If you think your fair housing rights have been violated, you may write,fax, or call your compliant to the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity (GCEO) or the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Housing Resources

USDA Rural Development Rural Home Loans: This program assists low, very low-income applicants obtain, decent, safe and sanitary housing in eligible rural areas by providing payment assistance to increase and applicant’s payment ability.

USDA Single Family Housing Repair Loans and Grants: This program provides low interest loans to very low-income homeowners to repair, improve, or modernize their homes or provides grants to elderly very low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards.

Georgia Dream Homeownership Program: Often the biggest obstacle to homeownership is being able to afford the down payment. The Georgia Dream Homeownership Program can help eligible qualified borrowers clear this hurdle.
