The goal of the Building Department for the City of Sylvester is to provide protection for the health, safety and welfare of the general public in relation to the use and occupancy of structures by the enforcement of International Building Codes and to protect the general public from abuse by unlicensed Contractors or sub-contractors by enforcement of State of Georgia Contractor Licensing Law. The State of Georgia also charges us with the responsibility to see that all rules associated with the Americans with Disabilities Acts are followed in order to afford all citizens with equal access to business and housing.

Examples of common projects that requires building permits are new construction, additions, remodeling, decks, patios, roofs, swimming pools, storage buildings, and detached garages.
