Sylvester Fire Department awarded a grant through Golden Triangle RC&D!

Sylvester Fire Department has been awarded a grant through Golden Triangle RC&D. The grant has allowed the purchase of two Electric Vehicle Blankets, one for each lead truck. As of today, The City of Sylvester has five electric vehicle charging stations located withing the city limits. It is just a matter of time before Sylvester Fire Department responds to an electric vehicle fire. While EV fires are less common, they are more difficult to extinguish. Their lithium-ion batteries take a long time to cool, creating a danger of reigniting, as well as extension to other cars that are parked nearby. During an electric vehicle fire, more than 100 chemicals are released, including heavy metals, carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide. When an EV catches fire, the blanket is rapidly placed over the burning vehicle to isolate the flames and minimize the release of toxic fumes by essentially cutting off oxygen supply to the fire. Thank you so much Golden Triangle RC&D for this opportunity.
