The Sylvester Fire Department will begin flushing fire hydrants on October 5, 2026. This allows us to ensure that our system is working properly and there are no issues that require action.
What to Expect During Hydrant Flushing
When local fire and water departments conduct routine line flushing, residents typically experience:
• Temporary low water pressure in the immediate work zones.
• Discolored or cloudy water caused by stirred-up mineral sediment and harmless iron deposits.
Tips for Residents
• Clear the lines: If you notice discolored water or excessive air after testing in your area, turn on an outside or cold-water indoor faucet and let it run for 5 to 10 minutes until it clears.
• Delay laundry: Avoid washing light-colored clothing during or immediately following a flush cycle, as discolored water can cause staining.
